Get to Know the Coaches
“I was born in Seattle, WA, but have been in the Portland/Vancouver area since I was a kid. I have played basketball throughout my whole life, and later looked to give back to kids who enjoy playing as much as I did. I graduated from WSU with a degree in in Sports Management, and have coached elementary and middle school aged kids primarily at the Boys & Girls Club, where many children couldn’t afford to play organized basketball. I have a lot of experience working with disadvantaged kids. I also have worked for Nike, Adidas, and now the Portland Trail Blazers all in sports-related fields. With the Blazers, I currently work in ticket sales in the office, but I also help coordinate things with groups like youth basketball teams. I love the game because it gives opportunities for people/kids that aren’t as fortunate as others, it creates impactful relationships, and teaches many life lessons. I want to help the kids learn the game and recognize their abilities and become confident in themselves. Fun Fact About Me: My favorite team is whatever team LeBron is on.”
“I am from Dallas, TX. I grew up loving the game of basketball and played competitively from a young age until college. I’ve had the pleasure of playing with some of the NBA’s most promising young talent in Marcus Smart and Semi Ojeleye, and played against others such as Julius Randle and Myles Turner. Basketball has always been a place for me to get away from all of life’s struggles, as well as a place to learn many life lessons. I have experience coaching youth teams and I currently work in sales for the Portland Trail Blazers. Fun Fact About Me: I have 2 dogs, Rex & Roxy, who are my best friends.”
“I was born and raised in Portland, OR. I started playing basketball at 4 years old in a Salvation Army youth league. In high school, I played 3 years of Varsity Basketball at Central Catholic in southeast Portland. I currently work as a Team Attendant for the Portland Trail Blazers, where I assist players, coaches, and team staff with game-day needs. I love basketball because it builds relationships and it’s something you can do to get your mind off of everything else that may be going on in your life. Fun Fact About Me: My favorite player is Damian Lillard.
This will be my 2nd season coaching with Cleveland. I have previously coached for Hillsboro Parks & Rec and the Beaverton Hoop YMCA, in addition to working several camps in the state of Oregon. I’ve worked both Damian Lillard & CJ’s camps as well in the summer months. I love basketball for the life lessons and life tools it can teach young kids. It also is great to see how the game can bring people together for a common goal. Unity! Fun Fact About Me: “I love bowling even though I’m not great at it. If anyone asks though, I will always say I’m the best!”
“I am a long-time Portland resident who’s love for all sports, especially basketball, started many decades ago. I am looking forward to many successful years coaching for Cleveland. At the end of the day, the goal for me is to help develop the amazing student-athletes and foster a love for the game and ultimately strengthen communities through organized athletics. Fun Fact About Me: I still play video games and my username is available upon request.”
